Free pad dispensers in school

Free Pad Dispensers in Apbet Schools: Empowering Girls and Reducing Period Poverty

RUKA SRHR Network is implementing a vital project in Nairobi's vulnerable areas to address period poverty and its devastating consequences, known as the "triple threat": limited access to menstrual products, inadequate sanitation facilities, and a lack of menstrual hygiene education.

This project installs free pad dispensers in  Alternative Provision of Basic Education and Training (Apbet) Schools, fostering a supportive environment for adolescents, youth, parents, teachers, and the entire menstruating community. Through this initiative, we aim to:

  • Reduce period poverty: By providing free sanitary pads, we ensure girls can attend school with dignity and confidence during their menstruation.
  • Promote menstrual hygiene management (MHM): We educate participants about proper menstrual hygiene practices, empowering them to manage their periods safely and effectively.
  • Break the stigma: Open discussions about menstruation dismantle taboos and create a culture of understanding and support.

We urgently need your help!

Currently, RUKA SRHR Network relies solely on internal contributions to sustain this critical project. The lack of external partners and sponsors threatens its continuation.

By supporting us, you can directly contribute to:

  • Empowering girls: Education is key to a brighter future, and period poverty shouldn't be a barrier.

  • Improving health outcomes: Proper MHM reduces the risk of infections and promotes overall well-being.

  • Building a more inclusive community: When menstruation is openly addressed, everyone benefits from a more understanding and supportive environment.

Become a well-wisher today and help us keep girls in school and break the cycle of period poverty!
